We are still awaiting the deficit reduction programme that the Chancellor laid out last year. On the ground, public expenditure is out of control and state institutions are making little or no effort to rein it in.
Since these sods cannot be trusted to meet their promises, they will bring on the tsunami that they wished to avoid. Once the vice like grip of the bond market holds their political futures in the balance, watch for the crisis to concentrate minds and promote true reform, not the pallid illusion that we endure today amongst many parts of the government.
