    The Enlightensphere as "Anglosphere 2.0"

The Anglosphere was an idea which found great resonance when it emerged around the turn of the millennium.

Of course, the Anglosphere divided the western world, and now, I think, that division isn't helping.  The threat from militant Islam both within and without the western world is a clear and present danger, and one which we must move quickly to defend against.  It is we, the inheritors of the Enlightenment, versus the advocates of an Islamic state.

Like the "cold war", I hope that we aren't going to see total war, and will stand firm in confrontation rather than combat, while our opponent collapses from their own contradictions and inefficiencies, and the strain of the conflict with us.  We must hasten to the barricades though, because demographics are against us.  And if we don't engage the opponent and target their weaknesses, shear weight of numbers may overwhelm us or our children.

This confrontation with Islam will be fought out on many tiny fronts, from street to street in our cities, from lecture theatre to debating hall in our schools and universities, from TV studio to newsroom to blogger's bedroom and from bunker to reprocessing plant in Iran, Syria, Libya etc.

    We will target their contradictions:

    • Their unproductiveness
    • Their backwardness
    • Their corruption
    • Above all, their evil treatment of women, their daughters and our daughters.
    • We will set up support networks to protect our allies, their apostates.

These fronts range across the globe, and a loss in each street, debating hall, studio or bedroom diminishes us.  Who are we?  We are the inheritors of the enlightenment.  We are proud to number among us, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Anders Fogh Rasmussen.  We regret that do not number Tony Blair or the US State Department.

We are not the Enlightenment.  That was the 18th century, but we are its heirs.  We range across the globe, beyond the limits of the Anglosphere.

    We, citizens of the Enlightensphere.

Blogger Cuchulainn, at the Bewilderment, asks whether the idea of the Anglosphere hasn't been made obsolete by the confrontation between the heirs of the Enlighenment and those who reject it. He observes: Who are we? We are the inheritors of... [Read More]
